Péter Pál Hajas
He graduated as an agricultural engineer in economics and wildlife management at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences of the University of Szeged. Afterwards, as a wildlife biologist, he worked on the conservation of the most prominent bird of the Carpathian Basin agricultural landscape, the partridge, as a volunteer for almost two decades due to the regular lack of funds for public programmes. In his attempts to save the partridge, he has generally found that in the various programme areas there was a general lack of harmonisation between wildlife management, nature conservation and agricultural production, although internationally there are many examples of this that have been known for decades. In his own farm, he therefore goes beyond a soil conservation approach to create harmony between the environment, wildlife and agriculture, and to develop and maintain a functioning agro-ecosystem.
In recognition of his work, he is a Life Member of the UK Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, a member of the European Sustainable Use Group for Flora and Fauna (ESUG) and the World Conservation Union (IUCN) Galliformes Expert Group.
